Before You Begin

Important: RefriTrak does not provide GPS hardware or tracking services. You must:

  • Have an account with a compatible GPS fleet tracking provider
  • Install GPS devices in your vehicles
  • Have device IDs from your GPS provider

How GPS Integration Works

RefriTrak connects to your GPS provider's system to:

  1. Display vehicle locations on a map
  2. Show recent movement history
  3. Track mileage and routes
  4. Monitor vehicle status and activity

What RefriTrak does:

  • Stores GPS device IDs for each vehicle
  • Pulls location data from your GPS provider's API
  • Displays tracking information in vehicle details
  • Includes GPS data in reports

What RefriTrak does NOT do:

  • Provide GPS hardware
  • Offer GPS tracking services
  • Install or maintain GPS devices
  • Bill for GPS services

Compatible GPS Providers

RefriTrak can integrate with most commercial fleet tracking providers that offer API access, including:

  • Verizon Connect (formerly Fleetmatics)
  • Samsara
  • Geotab
  • GPS Trackit
  • Teletrac Navman
  • Fleet Complete
  • Other providers with REST API access

Setting Up GPS Tracking

Step 1: Choose a GPS Provider

  1. Research fleet tracking providers
  2. Compare features, coverage, and pricing
  3. Consider factors like:
    • Hardware reliability
    • Mobile app availability
    • Reporting capabilities
    • Customer support
    • API access for integrations

Step 2: Install GPS Devices

Work with your GPS provider to:

  1. Purchase or lease GPS tracking devices
  2. Schedule professional installation
  3. Test device connectivity
  4. Verify data transmission

Typical installation includes:

  • Hardwired connection to vehicle power
  • GPS antenna positioning

Troubleshooting GPS Issues

Device ID Not Working

Check:

  • Device ID is entered correctly (no spaces or typos)
  • Device is active in GPS provider's system
  • API integration is configured
  • Vehicle has cellular connectivity

Solution: Verify the device ID in your GPS provider's dashboard and update it in RefriTrak if needed.

Location Not Updating

Check:

  • GPS device has power
  • Vehicle has been driven recently
  • Device has cellular signal
  • GPS provider service is active

Solution: Contact your GPS provider to verify device status and connectivity.

Missing GPS Data

Check:

  • Integration is fully configured
  • API credentials are valid
  • GPS subscription is current
  • Data permissions are set correctly

Changing GPS Providers

If you switch GPS providers:

  1. Install new GPS devices in vehicles
